MASON CITY – Around 11:00 am Thursday morning, the Mason City Fire Department and Mason City Police responded to a two vehicle accident with injuries at 19th Street SW and Wilson Avenue. The Mason City Police Department had 19th Street blocked from traffic flow starting at South Taft Avenue.

The two vehicle accident was between a car and an Absolute Waste Removal truck; the airbags in the car had deployed and at least one person was injured.

The 67-year-old female driver of the car, Cheryl Gaye Hobbs, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Hospital. She was also cited for failure to yield upon a left turn.

Minimal damage was done to the garbage truck, but Hobbs’ 2003 Chevy Malibu had major frontal damage. Affordable Towing was called to take the car and the employee also helped clean-up 19th Street.
