NASHUA — Janice “Jan” Anne Hannemann, 80, of Nashua, passed away July 3, 2026, at her home in Nashua.
Jan was born November 6, 1945, in Waverly, the daughter of William and Alma Collins. She grew up on the family farm near Janesville, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for nature and animals.
After graduating from Janesville Community School, Jan attended Wartburg College and earned a degree in elementary education in 1967. That same year, she began a teaching career at Nashua Elementary School that would span 43 years. Generations of students came to know her as a patient, caring and dedicated educator.
Jan married Tom Hannemann on September 21, 1979, and together they had three children. She was deeply devoted to her family, especially her children and seven grandchildren, and found joy in attending their activities, celebrating their milestones and spending time with those she loved.
Her life was also shaped by faith and service. Jan was a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua and shared her care for others through acts of kindness, conversation and generosity. She enjoyed reading, history, watching birds, crocheting and making blankets for family, friends and others.
Jan is survived by her children, Mike Hannemann of Nashua, Cindy Olson of Reinbeck and Matt Hannemann of Nashua; seven grandchildren; one sister, Jean Collins of Cedar Falls; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
