WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump today named CNBC’s Larry Kudlow his top economic advisor.

“Larry Kudlow will be my Chief Economic Advisor as Director of the National Economic Council,” the President tweeted. “Our Country will have many years of Great Economic & Financial Success, with low taxes, unparalleled innovation, fair trade and an ever expanding labor force leading the way!”

Kudlow is a CNBC Senior Contributor and author of a book titled JFK and the Reagan Revolution.

Former Republican Presidential candidate Steve Forbes applauded the move, saying “With Larry Kudlow’s appointment as the new director of the National Economic Council, the initials GOP might soon become an acronym for Growth, Opportunity, and Prosperity … has proven he’s the right man for the job. With strong character and vast experience on issues ranging from tax cuts to trade, I’m excited to see him take on the role of NEC director!”

Iowa Congressman Steve King, a member of the House Committee on Small Business, hailed the move, also, saying “I’ve long placed Larry Kudlow in the short list of the top American economists. He understands how taxes and spending affect the lives of our citizens. He also understands the history of American economics, and he sees with a bold and clear eye a vision for achieving a prosperous future.”

Kudlow famously predicted in 2007 that “there’s no recession coming. The pessimistas were wrong. It’s not going to happen.” Soon thereafter, America staggered through what became known as “The Great Recession” and only emerged after massive government bailouts of bank and auto industries.

Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of the Treasury, said Thursday he is “delighted to have Larry Kudlow join @realdonaldtrump’s economic team. Together we will ensure the continued success of our economy.”
