SOLON, IOWA — An Iowa man was airlifted to a hospital after he was struck by an unknown vehicle while walking along a rural road, and authorities say the driver fled without stopping.
The hit-and-run happened at approximately 8:07 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, near 4289 180th Street NE in Johnson County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 40-year-old Brian S. Vincent of Solon was walking eastbound near that address when he was struck by a vehicle.
The vehicle and its driver remain unidentified.
Rather than remaining at the scene, authorities say the striking vehicle left the area.
Vincent was injured and transported by AirCare to University of Iowa Health Care for treatment. The initial State Patrol report did not provide additional information about the extent of his injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the collision.
Solon Fire, Johnson County EMS and AirCare assisted emergency responders at the scene.
The case is another reminder of the potentially devastating consequences when motorists strike pedestrians and leave before police or emergency personnel arrive.
Earlier this summer, NorthIowaToday.com reported on a fatal hit-and-run in Des Moines in which police said investigators eventually used surveillance footage and neighborhood information to identify the suspected vehicle and driver.
Johnson County has also experienced other serious pedestrian crashes this summer. In July, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by two vehicles on Interstate 80 near Iowa City.
In the Solon case, however, investigators are still searching for the vehicle that struck Vincent.
The State Patrol’s preliminary report does not identify the make, model, color or other characteristics of the fleeing vehicle, nor does it indicate what evidence investigators may have recovered from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
