WATERLOO — A 19-year-old Waterloo man has been arrested following an investigation into gunfire that struck an occupied home Sunday morning.
Waterloo police said officers responded to the area of North Barclay and Gable streets at approximately 7:55 a.m. Aug. 30 after neighborhood residents reported hearing 10 to 12 gunshots.
Officers found damage consistent with gunfire on the front of a home at 630 Gable St. The occupants were inside at the time, but no injuries were reported.
Detectives with the Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team continued investigating the incident Tuesday. Police subsequently arrested Najier Qaliq Burkett and charged him with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony.
Burkett (pictured at top) was being held in the Black Hawk County Jail as of Wednesday’s announcement.
Police said no further details would be released at this time.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Burkett is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
