Legislators to host discussion about “Medicaid for All” proposal for Iowa health insurance Wednesday evening

DES MOINES – State Senator Matt McCoy and State Representative John Forbes have invited citizens to a public discussion of their “Medicaid for All” solution to Iowa’s health insurance situation. The goal, they say, is to ensure that every Iowan has access to more affordable and reliable health insurance.

The event will be held at Des Moines Central Library, 1000 Grand Avenue, from 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, June 21. The event will be livestreamed on Senator McCoy’s Faceboook page, here.

The collapse of Iowa’s individual health-insurance market has drawn national attention. Medica, the last insurer willing to provide individual health insurance policies in Iowa, has announced that a rate increase of an average of 43.5 percent is required for it to continue doing business in Iowa.

The two legislators seek to allow Iowans on the individual market to purchase health insurance coverage through Medicaid.

Senator Matt McCoy

“Given the uncertainty in the individual insurance market, it’s absolutely necessary for Iowa to forge its own path to provide access to insurance to all Iowans. It is to critical economic development that self-employed individuals and small businesses have access to more affordable and reliable health insurance. This plan will do that,” said McCoy.

“The gridlock in Washington, DC makes it imperative for states like Iowa to act independently in providing health insurance coverage. Iowans are practical and self-reliant, and we have the ability to implement this solution,” said Forbes.

The reimbursement rates are not enough to cover the cost of health care, therefore the cost of health care is higher for those that have insurance. Just because a medical facility charges x amount for a service doesn’t mean that they get reimbursed that amount. Who do you think makes up the difference. That’s also why many providers won’t take Medicaid patients.

I doubt these two fellows have a clue.

Medicare started this whole mess back in the mid 60s. Seniors Citizens are forced onto Medicare at age 65. Medicare pays 10% to 20% for the same service everyone else pays 100% for. This is mandated by Federal Law or should be viewed as “Cost Controls” for holding down how much the Government Health Care For Seniors cost.

Until EVERYONE pays the same price for the same service we will never have fair delivery of heath care.

Socialism just doesn’t work!!! When Government gets involved with anything that eliminates competition it never ends up in a good place.

From Medicare to Obamacare to ???? the Republicans have on the table, we will never solve this health care mess until Seniors pay the same price as everyone else.

At the end of the day our Congress and President are trying to please everyone and that is impossible!

Anything these politicians propose will only make it worse!

Watchdog-the problem is a lot of seniors can no longer afford the higher prices. They would have to go without health care. Medicare works good for seniors if the government would just quit stealing from it to fund their pet projects like the 9 billion Obama stole from it.

Medicare and Medicaid at every level is wrong and worthless. When EVERYONE purchased their “own” healthcare insurance, prices were lower (it was called competition) and the quality of our health care was way better.

Socialism is not the way to provide for ourselves. These two Progressive/Socialists fellows are only promoting snake oil to buy votes to get elected by the uneducated politically correct society we live in.

People on Medicaid are treated like second class citizens. They are forced to travel hundreds of miles for medical care and must go to Waterloo for dental care. Most of these people have minimal resources and no vehicle or even a license. Why would we want to force more people to go on a system that embarrasses people?

I take it he is democrat because his party is not mentioned in this article . Same as INCUMBANT. is not listed on voting ballots anymore – slick willie tactics.
