Hawkeye Area Labor Council announces cancelation of all Labor Day Events in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Iowa City, Marshalltown, & Mason City

There’s always something interesting at the (semi) annual Labor Day picnic in Mason City… but not this year.

CEDAR RAPIDS – The Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO announces the annual Labor Day Picnics in all chapters have been canceled for 2021 due to COVID numbers in the state on the rise. Reports now show that children 0-17 account for 13% of all reported positive cases in Iowa.

Executive Director Rick Moyle states “It is sad that we are having such a hard time in Iowa getting COVID under control. The HALC board and our delegates know that we all have a responsibility to do what is right by our communities. We are not willing to contribute to the spread of this evil virus”.

This action was voted on by the Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO Executive Board and all its Chapters.

Hawkeye Area Labor Council AFL-CIO is a coalition of unions and is the official organization of the national AFL-CIO in East Central & Northern Iowa, representing 26 counties, and 83 affiliated unions. The organization fights for social and economic justice; seeking to promote legislation that will enable the government to be responsive to the needs of working people and their families.
