WASHINGTON, May 17 (UPI) — The Powerball jackpot climbed to $550 million — the third largest jackpot in U.S. history — after no one won the most recent drawing, officials said.
There were no winners in Wednesday evening’s drawing, which means the jackpot for Saturday’s drawing will be at least $550 million, CNN reported.
The largest jackpot in U.S. history was a $656 million in a Mega Millions game that was split by three tickets sold in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland in March 2012, followed by Powerball jackpot of $587.6 million jackpot in November that was won by players in Arizona and Missouri.
Powerball, which costs $2 to play, is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. There is a 1 in 175 million chance of winning the game.
