MASON CITY — Sheryl Ruth Harringa, 87, of Mason City, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, leaving her family with memories of a selfless mother, grandmother and “Grandma Great” who was always willing to help those she loved.
A celebration of Sheryl’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE in Mason City. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the chapel.
A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, 1224 South Washington Avenue in Mason City.
Sheryl was born June 12, 1939, in Rockford, the daughter of Wilbur and Emma Newbery Achenbach.
She graduated from Rockford High School in 1957, where she was honored as homecoming queen. Later in life, Sheryl attended Hamilton Business College and studied to become a legal secretary.
During her working years, Sheryl served as a legal secretary at the McManigal Laird law firm. She also spent many years working as a real estate agent.
Although Sheryl took pride in her career, her most important roles were those of mother, grandmother and “Grandma Great.” She was selfless, caring and always willing to help the people she loved.
Sheryl was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mason City.
She enjoyed clipping coupons and finding ways to save money through rebates. During her younger years, Sheryl developed a green thumb and took great pride in growing an abundance of vegetables in her garden.
She generously shared her harvest with others, canning vegetables for her family and providing produce to numerous families. At one point, her garden even helped keep local grocery stores stocked.
Those left to cherish Sheryl’s memory include her daughters, Michelle Hepperly and her husband, Steve, and Jolene Anthony and her husband, Brad; brothers, Myron Achenbach and his wife, Connie, and Andy Achenbach and his wife, Connie; grandchildren, Jessica Amy and her husband, Trevor, of Ledyard, Cameron Hepperly and his wife, Kendra, of Morongo Valley, California, and Brooke Anthony and Sean Anthony of Mason City; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Evelyn Amy and Ryden and Kennedy Hepperly.
Sheryl’s brothers fondly noted that she was their favorite sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Emma; son, Troy Harringa; and former husbands, Gordon Ewald and Roger Harringa.
