IOWA CITY — Dani Carnegie has yet to take the court for the Iowa Hawkeyes, but the talented guard is already bringing some international gold to Iowa City.
Carnegie helped the United States capture the women’s championship Saturday at the 2026 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup in Wuhan, China. Team USA defeated Canada, 15-10, in the gold-medal game to complete an unbeaten run through the tournament.
The United States won all six games it played on the court. A scheduled pool-play contest against Australia was not held because of court conditions.
Carnegie delivers throughout gold-medal run
Carnegie made her presence felt from the opening game, grabbing four offensive rebounds as the United States edged Japan, 16-14.
She then broke loose for seven points and buried three shots from beyond the 3×3 arc during a commanding 21-8 victory over Slovenia.
Carnegie was even better when the elimination rounds arrived. She led Team USA with eight points in a 21-17 quarterfinal victory over the Netherlands before scoring six points in a 21-16 semifinal win over Spain.
With the world title on the line, Carnegie contributed five points and four rebounds as the Americans shut down Canada and secured the gold medal.
Another championship for the future Hawkeye
The world championship completed a productive summer with USA Basketball for Iowa’s newest guard.
Carnegie helped the United States win the 2026 FIBA 3×3 Nations League Americas North Conference in July in Ñuñoa, Chile. That victory secured Team USA’s berth in the U23 World Cup.
She also competed at the USA Basketball 3X Showcase in May, helping Team Phoenix win the tournament championship.
Big-time production headed to Iowa City
Carnegie joined the Iowa women’s basketball program during the offseason after earning unanimous first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors at Georgia in 2025-26.
She averaged 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 32 games for the Bulldogs, establishing herself as one of the SEC’s most productive guards.
Carnegie began her college career at Georgia Tech in 2024-25, earning Atlantic Coast Conference Sixth Player of the Year honors and a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team.
She will now arrive in Iowa City with an international gold medal and another championship performance on her résumé as the Hawkeyes prepare for the 2026-27 women’s basketball season.
