MASON CITY – A Mason City man was back in a jail cell Friday morning on a charge of aggravated public intoxication, even as he awaits trial on the same charge and pled guilty to another.
Police arrested 62-year-old Darrell William Laughlin late Thursday on a charge of aggravated public intoxication. He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and gel don $2,000 cash bond.
On March 29, Laughlin was charged with aggravated public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia after an incident in the Cultural Crescent where Laughlin was bothering an intoxicated woman. Laughlin later pled guilty to both charges and was assessed $525.00 in court costs and fines. He hasn’t made a payment yet, records show.
On March 26, Laughlin was charged with public intoxication, third or subsequent offense, after a concerned citizen spotted Laughlin lying on a sidewalk near the Mason City library, and called police. Police and fire medics responded to the scene, but by the time they got there, Laughlin had gotten up and was approaching an entrance to the Mason City library, where he was then arrested. He is awaiting a July 8, 2014 jury trial on that charge.
