CRESCO — Robert “Rob” Myers, 86, of Cresco, died Friday, September 4, 2026, at Regional Health Services of Howard County.
Memorial service arrangements are pending. His final resting place will be Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or the Howard County Cancer Association.
Born June 11, 1940, in Wayne, Nebraska, Rob was the son of Ida Pedersen Myers and Clair R. Myers. He graduated from Wayne Prep High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College in 1962. He later received a master’s degree in school administration from Mankato State University in 1967.
Rob began his career as a fifth-grade teacher in York, Nebraska, and later became an elementary principal in Geneva, Nebraska. In 1968, he joined the Howard-Winneshiek school system as an elementary administrator. He devoted 31 years to the district, helping guide generations of students and educators.
Rob married Jane Christensen on June 5, 1965, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Seward, Nebraska. They became the parents of two sons, Scott and Steven.
Faith and community service remained central throughout Rob’s life. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, where he served as council president, participated on numerous committees and sang in the choir for more than 40 years. He also volunteered with the local food bank and Meals on Wheels.
Rob belonged to the Cresco Country Club and Dollars for Scholars and shared his love of music as a member of the Elm Street Singers. Away from his community activities, he enjoyed golfing, reading, maintaining his fitness and collecting school antiques.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jane; sons Scott and his wife, Shawna, Myers and Steven Myers; grandchildren Skyler, Brenden and Makayla; brother Tom and his wife, Bonnie, Myers of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delores.
