ROLFE — A Northern Iowa man facing a felony methamphetamine charge after an early-morning traffic stop has made his initial court appearance and is scheduled to return to court later this month.
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office said deputies stopped a maroon Ford F-150 at approximately 3:32 AM on August 31 in the 700 block of Grant Street in Rolfe.
Following the traffic stop and investigation, deputies arrested 40-year-old Chad Allen Spencer of Rolfe.
Spencer was charged with possession of methamphetamine, third offense, a Class D felony, and driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Authorities have not released additional details about the amount of methamphetamine allegedly involved or what deputies encountered during the stop.
Court records show Spencer appeared for an initial appearance on August 31, the same day the criminal complaints were filed.
A judge also approved an order appointing an attorney to represent Spencer at state expense.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 AM on September 18.
Spencer was initially booked into the Pocahontas County Jail following his arrest.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and Spencer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
