DES MOINES — Iowans met this week to discuss the alleged threat posed by Congressman Zach Nunn to programs like Social Security.

According to Fairness for Iowa, a political group:

On Thursday, dozens of constituents met and spoke about issues facing their community. Former school teachers, the Executive Director of Iowa Citizen Action Network, and a concerned mother and Statehouse Representative Ako Abdul-Samad raised their concerns about Rep. Zach Nunn’s voting history that threatens vital programs like Social Security and Medicare.

“Rep. Nunn was elected into office to meet the needs of his nearly 900,000 constituents – but he has failed and continues to put corporations and wealthy donors above anyone else,” Sue Dinsdale, Executive Director of Iowa Citizen Action Network. “Nunn needs to know that our communities are hurting in so many ways, and many of us cannot suffer any longer.”

Nunn (pictured above) has repeatedly demonstrated his loyalty to corporations and the wealthy – like voting for the House Republicans’ Energy And Water Appropriations Bill that would cut energy assistance, raise energy and utility costs, and take funding away from a program that helps save thousands of high-paying jobs across the country.

“We must come together and have these discussions to educate our community on the realities of Nunn’s extremist policies,” Iowa State Representative Ako Abdul-Samad. “It’s important now more than ever to educate our friends and neighbors about Nunn’s extremist Republican voting record and the votes he’s taken to support corporations over his constituents.”

It’s time Nunn holds a public town hall to actually listen to his constituents’ concerns.
