CHARLES CITY – An 84-year-old woman fell asleep at the wheel of her car Tuesday afternoon at 1:50 pm and was injured.
Wilma Handt of Charles City was southbound on the off ramp of Highway 18 approaching County Road B-35 in Charles City. A truck was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection when Handt struck the rear of the truck.
Handt, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to the Floyd County Medical Center and cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle.
Timothy Young, 54, of Mason City, who was driving the truck, was not injured, the Iowa State Patrol accident report states.
Just another reason why old people should not be allowed to still have a license.
