FLOYD — Robert “Rob” McMurchy, 86, died September 16, 2026, leaving a legacy rooted in family, farming and the satisfaction of a hard day’s work.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 21, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service. Private family burial will take place at Howardville Cemetery north of Floyd.
A 1957 Floyd High School graduate, Rob spent his life tending the family’s century-plus farm, raising cattle and growing grain. Working alongside his son, Tim, brought him particular happiness.
Army service took him to Colorado from 1963 to 1965 and sparked a lasting love of the mountains. Family and the farm ultimately brought him home.
Rob and Barb McDermott married in 1968 and shared 58 years together, including his decade-long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Beyond farming, he enjoyed Canadian fishing trips, Boundary Waters adventures, motorcycle travel and repairing cars in his shop.
He leaves Barb; children Tim, Dean and Jodi; four grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Schumacher.
