MASON CITY – The Charles H. MacNider Art Museum’s 2020 Winter Film Series, Films in February, begins on Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m. with Free Solo. Admission to all films is FREE and open to the public.  Popcorn will be provided.  NEW THIS YEAR: After the film the Museum will host a discussion group for any who would like to attend.  Join your fellow viewers in discussing the ideas and feeling that the films bring to light while they are still fresh in your mind.

Free Solo is a stunning, intimate and unflinching portrait of the free soloist climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: climbing the face of the world’s most famous rock, the 3,000ft El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, without a rope. Celebrated as one of the greatest athletic feats of any kind, Honnold’s climb set the ultimate standard – perfection or death.

Free Solo (2018), a documentary film, is rated PG-13 (for brief strong language) and is 97minutes long.  It is sponsored by a Friend of the Film Series.

This year’s Film Series includes four powerful films that will capture the viewer’s imagination:

February 1 – Free Solo

February 8 – Decoding the Driftless

February 15 – The Florida Project

February 22 – 13th
