SHEFFIELD — Mildred Jean “Millie” Schroeder, 89, of Sheffield, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.
A celebration of Millie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 19, at Sheffield United Methodist Church, 510 Thompson Street. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.
Millie was born November 11, 1936, in Mason City, the daughter of Albert and Anna Nielsen Theilen. She attended Mason City High School.
On December 7, 1958, Millie married Lawrence “Red” Schroeder at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Millie helped Red with his milk routes and remained active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Through the organization, she helped provide and maintain medical equipment for veterans who needed it.
She also volunteered for many years with the activity department at the Sheffield Care Center.
Known throughout the community for her hard work, Millie cleaned homes for numerous residents, especially senior citizens. She also cleaned the Sheffield bank and United Methodist Church.
Millie loved traveling and spent time in Branson for many years. She also enjoyed taking trips with her sister, Ruth.
More than anything, Millie treasured time with her relatives and friends. Helping the people she loved brought her tremendous happiness throughout her life.
Those left to cherish Millie’s memory include her daughter, Deb Devine and her husband, Jim, of Klemme; sister, Clara Howard; brother-in-law, Larry Tull; Ed and Laura Schroeder; sister-in-law, Ruth Redman and her husband, Stacy; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Theilen; husband, Lawrence “Red” Schroeder; son, Daryl; sister, Ruth Ward and her husband, Sherm; brothers, Albert “Jr.” Theilen and his wife, Virginia, and Orville “Dean” Theilen and his wife, Betty; sisters-in-law, Becky Tull and Ruby Nissen and her husband, Bob; brother-in-law, Delbert Schroeder and his wife, Priscilla; niece, Kathy Kramer; and nephews, Bob Framness, Wayne Redmond, Scott Ward and Morley Lee.
