MASON CITY — A Mason City woman given probation after a destructive incident inside a local convenience store is now being held without bond while awaiting transportation to an Iowa prison.
Cheri Rae Decker, 33, was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, following a probation-revocation dispositional hearing.
Court records show District Court Judge Adam D. Sauer filed an order of disposition that day and directed that a certified copy be provided to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office.
The county jail now lists Decker under Iowa Code 716.5, third-degree criminal mischief involving damage between $750 and $1,500. Her status is listed as “No Bond / Waiting Transport Prison.”
Decker’s prison sentence stems from Cerro Gordo County case FECR034592 and a December 19, 2025, incident at the Casey’s General Store at 813 North Federal Avenue in Mason City.
Police accused Decker (pictured at top) of entering the business unclothed, damaging merchandise and store property, throwing items and making physical contact with people inside. The store temporarily closed for professional cleaning.
Prosecutors initially charged Decker with first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony, and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.
Decker eventually entered negotiated guilty pleas to reduced charges of third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor, and general assault, a simple misdemeanor.
District Court Judge Blake H. Norman sentenced Decker on March 26 to a two-year prison term for criminal mischief but suspended the sentence and placed her on probation for two years. She also received a 14-day jail sentence for assault.
Court records show Decker admitted to her first probation violation after proceedings were initiated May 5. The court continued working with her and ordered her into the Fresh Start Women’s Residential Facility in June.
Her probation problems continued later that month.
NIT reported in June that Decker was arrested in Polk County on a new felony assault allegation shortly after being placed under court supervision in Mason City.
She was originally charged with assaulting a person in a protected occupation and causing bodily injury, a Class D felony, following the June 22 incident.
The Polk County charge was reduced through a plea agreement. Decker pleaded guilty August 18 to assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.
District Court Judge Christopher R. Kemp sentenced her to 60 days in jail and credited her with 60 days already served. She was also ordered to pay a $430 fine.
A second probation-violation case was opened in Cerro Gordo County on June 25. Court records show Decker entered a negotiated guilty plea to that violation as well.
The September 16 disposition followed months of violation reports, warrants, transportation orders and hearings between Cerro Gordo and Polk counties.
Decker’s current jail status indicates the court revoked her probation and ordered the previously suspended two-year prison sentence into effect. She remains in the Cerro Gordo County Jail without bond while awaiting transfer to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The actual amount of time Decker serves will depend on credit for time already spent in custody, earned-time rules and correctional decisions.
