MASON CITY — A Mason City woman who was recently placed on probation after a chaotic and violent incident at a local convenience store is now facing more legal trouble after a new felony arrest in the Des Moines area.
Cheri Rae Decker (pictured at top), 33, was booked into the Polk County Jail on June 22, 2026, on a charge of assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury or mental illness. The charge is a Class D felony under Iowa law.
Polk County jail records list the case as FECR404185 and show bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety.
The new arrest comes shortly after Decker was placed under court supervision in a Cerro Gordo County case tied to a disturbing December 2025 incident at a Mason City Casey’s General Store.
In that case, authorities accused Decker of entering the store unclothed and covered in blood, damaging property, knocking items around the business, and having physical contact with people inside the store. Police alleged the incident caused injury to at least one person and left the business needing professional cleaning before it could fully reopen.
Decker was initially accused in Cerro Gordo County of more serious charges, including first-degree criminal mischief and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. Court records show she later entered negotiated guilty pleas to third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor, and assault, a simple misdemeanor.
On March 26, 2026, District Court Judge Blake H. Norman sentenced Decker to a two-year prison term on the criminal mischief count, but suspended that sentence and placed her on probation for two years. She was also sentenced to 14 days in jail on the assault count and placed on probation.
Court records show that on June 15, 2026, Decker was ordered to the Fresh Start Women’s Residential Facility as part of probation revocation proceedings in the Cerro Gordo case.

After the new Polk County arrest, additional probation-related filings were made in Cerro Gordo County. Probation violation reports were filed June 22 and June 23, followed by a probation revocation filing on June 25. The court then ordered a public/bench warrant.
A revocation hearing is scheduled for 2:00 PM on July 21, 2026.
Because Decker’s two-year prison sentence in the Cerro Gordo case was suspended, she could face that prison term if the court finds she violated probation and orders the sentence imposed.
Decker has appeared in prior Mason City news coverage. In 2011, NIT reported that Decker, then 18, was accused after police said she left her four-month-old child alone at a residence while she went out for the evening. Police said the child was found safe. NIT’s earlier story is available here: Mason City teen mother arrested for child endangerment.
The Polk County case remains pending. Decker is presumed innocent of the new charge and any alleged probation violation unless and until proven guilty in court.
