WASHINGTON, D.C. – Obamacare had more than 400,000 enrollees than last year – topping 6.4 million – but Republicans will be aiming to shoot down the beleaguered program once they take the reigns of government next year.
Secretary of Health & Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell reported this week that the Affordable Care Act – sometime dubbed “Obamacare” is “a product people want and need. 400K more have signed up this year than this time last year.” She says 6.4 million Americans (not including auto-enrollments) signed up this year, and “we begin the sprint to the finish. HealthCare.gov is still open for business.”
Reportedly, over 35,000 Iowans signed up for this next year, over 2,000 more than last year.
However, Republicans triumphantly took the Congress in this past election, and are intent on squashing the program and replacing it with something they claim will be better.
Democrats say this won’t be as easy as they think it will be and the GOP may really have no plan at all.
“Today, Congressional Republicans found out that their plan to repeal health care for millions of Americans will be even more devastating,” the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee stated. “According to numerous reports, a record 6.4 million Americans have signed up for affordable health insurance since November 1 thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Republicans want to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no plans to replace it, leaving tens of millions of Americans at risk of higher costs and losing coverage altogether. These millions of Americans newly enrolled in health insurance are being unnecessarily targeted by Republicans’ reckless partisan attack on affordable health care.
“Despite its devastating impact on the American people, Republicans have made repealing the Affordable Care Act their top priority in the new Congress – without any plans to replace it. This reckless approach would rip apart the American health care system and create chaos throughout our economy. Health care costs will skyrocket for families across America – even those who get insurance from their employers – while insurance companies and wealthy corporations will get a massive tax break. According to independent experts, Republicans’ reckless approach could cost 30 million Americans their health insurance.
“Will Republicans reconsider their reckless repeal plan? Or will they stand with families who want affordable, dependable access to their doctors and hospitals?”
Moving forward to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, the nation awaits a detailed plan from Republicans on what a national health car plan will look like. Trump says “On day one of the Trump Administration, we will ask Congress to immediately deliver a full repeal of Obamacare. We will work with Congress to make sure we have a series of reforms ready for implementation that follow free market principles and that will restore economic freedom and certainty to everyone in this country. By following free market principles and working together to create sound public policy that will broaden healthcare access, make healthcare more affordable and improve the quality of the care available to all Americans.”

I am grateful for Obamacare. If not for it, my wife would not have insurance as she has a condition that many insurance companys wouldn’t insure once my company dropped my family insurance, We looked but couldn’t find anyone until the ACA came. Now we don’t know what we will do if they repeal it.
What is really messed up is you pay fine if you don’t enroll,in the last 2 years paid 1,200$ in fines.Could of took handout,but that doesn’t seem right to do.And I wonder where the money goes for the so called fines.If anything Trump should at very least change that type of practice.But I’ll just bet nothing will really change.

Just wondering, 400k signed up last year, 6.4 million signed up this year, so says our government. But how many of them lost the doctor they prefer, and how many of them had their premiums raised. And how much has this cost our government, AKA tax payers.
