Dean’s life began far from North Iowa. He was born on April 29, 1970, in Portland, Oregon, and later graduated from Sunset High School in Beaverton, Oregon. Over the years, he worked a variety of jobs and built a life marked by simple pleasures, family connections and the things he enjoyed most.

Those who knew Dean will recall his love of cooking, reading and movies — interests that reflected a curious mind and an appreciation for comfort, stories and time well spent.

Dean is survived by his mother, Rachel Jones of Mason City; brothers Chuck Winchester of Fargo, North Dakota, and Don Winchester Jr. and Pam Winchester of Cedar Rapids; sisters Janie Jones of Rockwell and Julie and Rory Winters of Nashua; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Winchester Sr.; his sister, Joaquin Jones; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Praise Community Church, 11 2nd Street NW in Mason City. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Jeff Dahlin officiating.
