United Way to hold 3rd annual Shoe Drive

MASON CITY, IOWA – United Way of North Central Iowa is holding the 3rd annual Shoe Drive to benefit area students returning to school in the fall. United Way will be collecting athletic shoes through mid-August. New to gently used athletic shoes in all sizes will be accepted. Again this year, United Way will serve the entire north central Iowa area. There will be donation stations located throughout the region. All donated shoes will remain in the area where they were collected.

“Sending a child back to school with a new pair of tennis shoes will help improve self-esteem and increase physical activity,” said Jennifer Kammeyer, Chief Professional Officer, United Way. “The community can help students in local schools by donating to the shoe drive.”

Last year United Way collected over 1,000 pairs of shoes, and distributed them to students in grades K – 12. The distribution of shoes will take place before school starts this fall. If you would like to volunteer with the Shoe Drive, please contact United Way.
