GREENE — Roger W. Burnett, a Greene man whose life was tied closely to family, friends and the people who knew him best, has died at age 84.
Burnett passed away on June 9, 2026. He was born January 13, 1942.
His passing leaves behind a family that includes his wife, Gayle, and loved ones across multiple generations.
Burnett is survived by his wife, Gayle Rowley Burnett; his daughter, Gwen Rooney and her husband, Pat; his grandchildren, Dillon Burnett, Abby Engels and her husband, Dan, and Spencer Rooney and his wife, Jezzy; and his great-grandchildren, Hudson Engels, Harper Engels, Declan Rooney, Arianna Rooney, Bentley McCabe and Charlotte McCabe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Edith Goodell Burnett; his son, Tom; and his siblings, Jerry, Tom and Beverly Gersema.
For those who knew him, Burnett’s life will be measured not only by dates and family names, but by the quiet bonds built over 84 years. His family, friends and community connections form the legacy he leaves behind.
In small Iowa communities like Greene, a life such as Burnett’s reaches far beyond one household. It is carried forward through children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbors, old friends and the memories shared by those who walked alongside him.
