Worth County supervisors approve drainage bid, claims, sheriff’s labor agreement at June 9 meeting

NORTHWOOD — The Worth County Board of Supervisors approved a drainage district bid, county claims, a sheriff’s office labor agreement and the official canvass of the June 2 primary election during its regular meeting on June 9, 2026. The board approved a request to use the courthouse grounds from June 26 through July 5 for the 11th Annual 99 County Bible Reading.

NORTHWOOD — The Worth County Board of Supervisors approved a drainage district bid, county claims, a sheriff’s office labor agreement and the official canvass of the June 2 primary election during its regular meeting on June 9, 2026.

Supervisors Mark Smeby, A.J. Stone and Enos Loberg were present for the meeting. Loberg called the meeting to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The board approved the day’s agenda and the June 2 meeting minutes.

One of the early actions Tuesday was approval of a bid for Drainage District No. 46. Supervisors awarded the project to A1 Excavating & Drainage Inc. for $86,740. The county noted it was the only bid received.

The board also approved county claims totaling $548,341.64.

In personnel action, supervisors approved payroll eligibility verification for Carol Mens at $20.16 per hour, as submitted by the sheriff. The board also approved the sheriff and clerk of court monthly reports.

Supervisors approved a Class “C” retail alcohol license renewal for The Stock Tank LLC and acknowledged the manure management plan update for Dalluge Turkey Farm #14345.

The board also approved Resolution 2026-14, setting the percentage of funding for several property tax credits and exemptions for assessment year 2025. The resolution states the Homestead and Disabled Veterans Property Tax Credit, Elderly and Disabled Property Tax Credit, Mobile/Manufactured/Modular Home Property Tax Credit and Special Assessment Property Tax Credit will be funded at 100 percent. The Agricultural Land Tax Credit was set at 20.2083255224 percent, and the Family Farm Credit was set at 15.07910352 percent.

Supervisors also approved Resolution 2026-15, approving a collective bargaining agreement between Worth County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa AFSCME Council 61. The agreement is effective July 1, 2024, and runs until July 1, 2029.

The board approved a request to use the courthouse grounds from June 26 through July 5 for the 11th Annual 99 County Bible Reading.

Supervisors also approved a proclamation recognizing the 2026 Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, as presented by the Helen Hinman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The board also approved a request to use the front steps of the Worth County Courthouse as a place to observe the 250th anniversary of the reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The regular session recessed at 8:58 a.m. and reconvened at 9:00 a.m. for the canvass of the 2026 Worth County Primary Election.

The board approved Resolution 2026-16, certifying the June 2 primary election results. According to the canvass, 989 people voted at the polls on election day, 97 absentee ballots were accepted for counting, and no provisional ballots were accepted. A total of 1,086 people voted.

County candidates nominated in the primary were Marena Henkle, Republican, Board of Supervisor District 1; Mike Hanson, Republican, Board of Supervisor District 3; Jolene Hickle, Republican, County Recorder; Jake Hanson, Republican, County Treasurer; Jeffrey H. Greve, Republican, County Attorney; and Dexter Banks, Democratic, County Attorney.

County offices without a Democratic Party nominee were Board of Supervisor District 1, Board of Supervisor District 3, County Recorder and County Treasurer.

The board also acknowledged the post-election audit report and auditor certification for the 2026 Worth County Primary Election.

The meeting adjourned at 9:36 a.m.
