End of Summer Beach Party held in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE – The third annual End of Summer Beach Party was held Saturday at Clear Lake’s City Beach.  The event was sponsored by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

At 8:00 am, the Seawall to Seawall 5K run was held with more activities following in the afternoon.

The beach party activities began at 1 p.m., with family fun events such as sandcastle building contests, bean bag toss competition for adults and kids, “Whatever Floats Your Boat” recycled boat races, a kiddy hand powered train sponsored by Kingland, and a treasure hunt. The treasure hunt involved digging through the sand in search of prizes provided by local businesses.

Prizes in the treasure hunt include an airplane sightseeing Tour from North Iowa Air, a two-hour trolley rental from Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. a “year-round dine around” package for two at twelve Clear Lake restaurants, two-hour pontoon rental from Clear Lake Boats, Queen Size Mattress Set from Serta, Best Western “Family Fun Getaway”, (Package includes 1 overnight stay, freshly baked cookies, pop, popcorn and a free in-room family movie), Back Pack & Beach Towel and Free Pizza for a Year from Dr. Pepper/Snapple and Casey’s General Store, Ten-Play Card from Veterans Memorial Golf Club, Ten Renaissance Festival Tickets from Three Eagles Communications, $100 Gift Card from Best Buy, Clear Lake “Cosmo’s Sexy Date Night” Package: Dinner for 2 at Ge-Jo’s By the Lake, two Tickets for a cruise aboard the Lady of the Lake, and a gift basket of Wine, Glasses, & Chocolates from j avenue.

Also at 1:00 pm, new this year is “Louie’s Tailgate Tent.” Where you could enjoy meat samples from Louie’s Custom Meats, beer samples from United Beverage, and watch the first University of Iowa football game of the season on a TV screen from Custom Pro Audio/Video. Tailgate Tent admission was $3, which included samples and chances to win door prizes. Had to be 21 years of age to participate.

A free concert on the beach was featured with Spenser Rahm from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Danny Grouse and his Redneck Roadshow followed with an acoustic country show and DJ summer beach songs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Along with all the planned activities, with the temperatures in the mid ’80’s, people were enjoying the water sports and fun. Boating, swimming, water-skiing, jet-skiing and just jumping through the water plunging from the ground.

The Beach Party concluded with a movie in the park. “Skyfall” was shown at 8 p.m. in City Park, sponsored by United Rentals.

Event sponsors include the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Alliant Energy, the Clear Lake Mirror Reporter, Clear Lake Bank & Trust, CL Tel, Dean Snyder Construction Co., First Gabrielson Agency, Farmers State Bank, ITC, Three Eagles Communications, & Potter & Brant P.L.C and bag boards donated by Walmart.

Tim Coffey, executive director of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Iowa Chamber of Commerce Executives (ICCE), a state-wide association of Chambers professional staff. Coffey will fill a two-year term on the board.
