MASON CITY — Mary Smith, whose life stretched across nearly a century of change, family history and community memory, has died at age 95.
Smith passed away on June 14, 2026. She was born September 14, 1930.
Her passing marks the close of a long life that began during the early years of the Great Depression and continued through decades of transformation in Iowa and across the country.
A person who reaches 95 years leaves behind more than dates on a calendar. Such a life carries generations of memories, family stories, friendships, quiet lessons and moments that remain with the people who knew her best.
For family and friends, Smith’s passing is a time to mourn, but also to reflect on the many years, relationships and experiences that shaped her life.
In communities like Mason City, the loss of an elder is often felt through the stories they leave behind — memories shared at kitchen tables, family gatherings, church pews, neighborhood visits and all the small places where a life quietly touches others.
Smith’s loved ones now carry forward those memories as they honor a life that endured through 95 years.
