North Iowa woman hospitalized after 4-car accident Friday morning

MASON CITY – A North Iowa woman was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Friday morning after a four-car accident north of Mason City.

Cerro Gordo deputies were dispatched to a multiple car accident that occurred just south of 300th Street and Mallard Avenue at approximately 10:59 AM today. The accident involved 4 vehicles. The first vehicle was a blue 2001 Buick LeSabre owned by Patterson Construction and driven by Evelyn Patterson from Northwood, age 78. Patterson lost control on the icy road and started to spin on the roadway into the path of oncoming traffic. The second vehicle was being driven by 56-year-old Donald Graft from Buffalo Center, a red 2001 Pontiac Aztec. As Patterson’s vehicle had lost control, Graft hit Patterson when she came into his lane. Patterson’s vehicle went into the west ditch and Graft’s vehicle was still in the southbound lane. The third vehicle was being driven by 39-year-old Joshua Carpenter from Garner, a gray 2014 Dodge Ram pick up. Carpenter slowed his vehicle down because of the first accident that just occurred on the roadway. The fourth vehicle was driven by 58-year-old Paul Orth from Manly, a silver 2001 Dodge Durango. Orth was traveling southbound on Mallard Avenue behind Carpenter’s truck and was unable to stop in time and rear ended Carpenter’s truck. Christine Graft, age 41 from Buffalo Center, was a passenger in the the fourth vehicle. She sustained an unknown injury and was transported by Mason City Fire to Mercy ER.

The investigation continues.

Assisting the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was the Mason City Fire Department.
