MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors approved property tax credit funding levels, monthly fee reports, tax abatements, a fireworks permit, a temporary road closure for the TRI Clear Lake Triathlon and more than $445,000 in claims during its regular meeting on June 15, 2026.
Chairman Casey Callanan convened the meeting at 10:00 AM. Supervisors Carl Ginapp and Chris Watts were also present, along with members of the public.
The board first approved the day’s agenda, as well as minutes from the June 8 regular session and June 9 special session. A public comment session was also held.
Supervisors then approved county claims totaling $445,245.16.
A key item on the agenda was Resolution 2026-42, setting how state-funded property tax credits will be applied in Cerro Gordo County for the fiscal year running July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
Under the resolution, several credits will be funded at 100%, including the Mobile/Manufactured/Modular Home Property Tax Credit, Special Assessment Property Tax Credit, Homestead Property Tax Credit, Disabled Veteran’s Homestead Credit and Elderly and Disabled Property Tax Credit.
The Agland Credit will be funded at 20.83255224%, while the Family Farm Credit will be funded at 15.07910352%.
The board also approved the Clerk’s Monthly Report of Fees and the Sheriff’s Monthly Report of Fees.
Supervisors voted to abate taxes on two mobile homes, including $296 on mobile home VIN 62073 and $87 on mobile home VIN H08794.
A fireworks permit was approved for Jay Lindsay.
The board also approved the temporary closure of portions of B35, Dogwood and Southshore Drive on August 29, 2026, from approximately 7:00 AM to noon for the 10th Annual TRI Clear Lake Triathlon.
Supervisors held a public hearing on a zoning request from the Eldon R. Doane and LaVonne C. Doane Revocable Trust. After the hearing, the board approved Resolution 2026-43, changing the zoning classification of a 5.15-acre parcel from A-1 Agricultural District to A-2 Agricultural Residence District.
The property is part of the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of Section 35, Township 94 North, Range 22 West in Cerro Gordo County.
County Engineer Brandon Billings also provided an update.
Near the end of the meeting, supervisors went into closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the purchase or sale of particular real estate where premature disclosure could affect the price paid or received by the county.
The closed session began at 10:16 AM and ended at 10:26 AM. The board adjourned immediately afterward.
