NORTH IOWA – Winnebago County announced today that it is implementing an Emergency burn ban countywide due to the hot and dry conditions. The burn ban will be in effect until further notice.
Also throughout the North Iowa Area, a red flag warning is in effect until 8 PM Thursday evening.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines reports that field crops are nearly cured and are highly combustible which could lead to rapid fire growth. Also, the drying of grasses is well ahead of schedule due to hot and dry conditions.
“Fires will experience rapid growth and will be very difficult to contain today,” the agency said.
