CHARLES CITY – A trial date has been set for a man who allegedly tried to seriously injure a Charles City police officer.
According to a report, on September 21, 2013 at about 2:39 AM, Dennis M. Dietrich, age 23, of Charles City was arrested after police responded to a report of an individual causing a disturbance in the 600 block of Gilbert Street. Dietrich was arrested for public intoxication.
Shortly after the arrest, at about 4:36 AM, police officers went to the Floyd County Jail to transport Dietrich to the hospital for unknown reasons. Dues to incidents that took place during the transport and upon arrival at the hospital, Dietrich was charged with assault on a peace officer with intent to inflict serious injury (a class D felony) and interference with official acts.
Dietrich has plead not guilty to the charges. He awaits a January 23, 2014 trial.
