Mason City hotel locked down during “false” threat

MASON CITY – A reported threat at a Mason City hotel proved to be false, but not before the establishment was locked down by police for an investigation.

On Friday, December 6, 2019 at 9:57 pm, Mason City Police Department officers were dispatched to the Holiday Inn Express, 3041 4th Street SW, for a report of a threat involving the safety of multiple individuals including two minors. Officers responded to the scene and locked down the establishment. Officers checked the building and determined that the report was a hoax. The Police Department was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and Mason City Fire Department.

The situation remains under investigation anyone with information is asked to call the Mason City Police Department.
