At about 5:27 am Monday morning, Mason City police were informed that Cheri Rae Decker, 18, of Mason City had left her four month old child alone at her residence and had gone out for the evening.

Officers immediately proceeded to her residence and verified that the child was OK, but was in fact alone.

Decker was located shortly thereafter at another residence in Mason City, but claimed her child was being watched by a relative. Officers continued to investigate the incident with assistance from the Iowa Department of Human Services and determined Decker had not made any specific arrangements to have the child cared for. Decker was charged with minor consumption, interference with official acts and child endangerment.

Decker was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and is being held on a $2000.00.

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

I will tell you all something. I agree that kids should not have kids. But, not all kids who have kids are bad parents. I can name 30+ people who are old enough to have children, and fail at the responsibility that comes along with it. I do not condone having children so young. But the fact is that it happens. I myself am a young mother of two. I graduated high school. I attend college. I am also in college to become a physician. I have a home, a job, and soon a degree in bio-med. Don’t blame all young moms just because this simple minded, non-responsible girl decided that she wasn’t a mom for the night.

I’m sick over the fact that this idiot works at a daycare!! No wonder I chose to live on one income so my kids wouldn’t have to go to daycare. It’s a rough ride barely making ends meet, but FAR better than taking the chance that some tard like this would be responsible for my children 8 hours a day. Don’t daycares do interviews? MAybe if a screw is loose, they shouldn’t hire out of desperation. Better to have a small, responsible staff than to have POS’s like this employed there.

You have to have a license to drive a car, or to ride a motorcycle or moped. You even have to have a license to fish!! But anyone can be a parent. Sad. When you become a parent, everything else is second, your child comes FIRST. Apparently she didn’t get the memo.

    James Pieschke,

You raise an important point. However, I don’t think you can write if off as “stupidity”. I prefer the term “ignorance” as it can be corrected.

Stupidity is fatal, ignorance can be corrected!

Unfortunately we now live in the TV world where every thing is fed to us with drama, including the news. For as long as I can remember I have been aware that society has become addicted to drama.

From elected officials down to management style I have long recognized that wisdom is clouded with to much emotion. Even in your response to the idiotic comments posted on here I sense this emotion, do be careful.

I use a technique that while not always successful works most of the time. (I get sucked in too, at times)

“Don’t believe everything you are told, don’t believe everything you read, and believe only half of what you see.

Then, do some research and wait 3 days to make a decision if you can. I usually get it right then.

You are right to be concerned about the nonsense that get’s posted on here. It does make life difficult to deal with, but for now it’s the world we live in.

It would appear that the concept of Innocent Until Proven Guilty is entirely lost on the majority today.
Since most of you seem to pursue the idea of guilt with such glee and enthusiasm perhaps at least a few of you might shine the light on each other for a moment?
Consider that your premature call to judgement has absolutely nothing to do with common sense and that perhaps your actions at this very moment are a big part of what makes the world what it is today. That what you’re doing by conducting yourselves like a bunch of rumor-mongering, gossip-whores is on some levels even worse than the crime this woman is accused of.
If nothing more is required of you to condemn someone than someone else pointing a finger then maybe your moral high-ground isn’t what you think it is. And that’s the truly disturbing idea for me, that people with less than half a brain have no problems spitting on the ideas that this country was founded on, the very basis of our criminal justice system…
Perhaps that is where the flaw truly lies- that such mindless, vapid drones could be called for jury duty. That conformist scum of the earth like yourselves are the majority. That people like you hold another persons life in their hands and are terrifyingly unqualified to do so.
That any of you have the audacity to defend this kind of behavior, to make an attempt to rationalize it- is evidence of a fantastic inversion of values.
Proof that stupidity is now a virtue.

    All of you disgust me.

This girl obviously needs some growing up to do. She is lucky that the baby was found alive and unharmed. Haven’t you heard of birthcontrol, there are ways to prevent this especially if you are not ready to grow up and give up alot for that child that you brought into this world. The scary thing is that she is taking care of other peoples children in a childcare center.

DHS is a joke, they will keep the parents and kids together in all but the most extreme circumstances. I don’t know what happened to the mom, she was a good kid, probably just not ready to grow up. Hopefully, the parents can help encourage her to do the right thing until she is ready to be a parent full time.

How many times does things have to be reported to DHS before the really do something about it. Was this girl reported before and DHS did nothing, would not surprise me that is how they seem to be. If you are not ready to be a Mom then give the child up for adoption instead of harming them.

This girl will have an uphill struggle to get her child back. DHS does not take these cases lightly and rightfully so.We all need to look out for the welfare of innocent children like this. Anyone who knows of people abusing there children like this is as guilty as this mother for not reporting this to the proper authorities. We, as adults, are the only voice these kids have

It is not necessary to post such hate concerning this parent, who obviously has no support and who the daddy is is not important. Instead of calling her names why not have some compassion for her. You have not walked in her shoes or been in her situation. For all you know this is all she knows.

Incredible that not a single person takes into consideration the possibility of innocence. Even without proof almost every one of you ignorant shits is willing to immediately condemn someone as guilty for no other reason save that the accusation was made.
That alone is just as morally reprehensible as the crime this girl is accused of.
Rumor mongering gossip whores with the gullibility of a mentally handicapped 6 year old should not be allowed to have children any more than someone actually guilty of the crime.

Ask yourselves how many times you have done this, then give some thought to at least one situation where the allegations were proven to be false. Statistically this had to have happened at least once.
Did you ever offer an apology to the person you so enthusiastically trashed or bother to expend even one tenth of the energy towards bashing the person responsible for it in the first place?

    I somehow doubt it.

Now look in the mirror and ask yourself if you’re so morally superior after all. While you’re at it consider the insult you delivered to the people who fought and died to create this nation in order to escape exactly the kind persecution you so gleefully engage in every time an allegation is made.
You should be deeply ashamed of yourselves.

Innocent until PROVEN guilty means exactly that.

I just can’t believe the way the world is now a days. There’s people who can’t have kids and she’s going out to drink leaving her baby alone. This makes me sad. I hope she get her baby taken away from her. She is too young, I am 25 and am aware that I am not financially ready for a kid, I feel I am responsible enough, but to be honest there are things in my life, like cooking 3 meals a day, having a place big enough for a kid and keeping it clean enough and baby proof for one (not that I live like a pig) that I know I just couldn’t do right now working and being in school and all. And though I don’t want to judge, but just by statistics, that baby was probably not planned.

i bet the baby wasn’t planned but we don’t know the story of why she became pregnant or the terms of how the baby was able to be conceived. it could of been a fail of birth control or not using any at all or some other very bad way.
