IOWA CITY – Police in Iowa City were called to the downtown area Wednesday night, where they nabbed a suspect after he allegedly attacked and stabbed a person multiple times.
Iowa City Police say that at 9:10 PM, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, officers responded to the area of Washington and Clinton streets for a report of a fight during which an individual was stabbed. Responding officers located one victim who was taken to the hospital to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained in the fight. A police report says the suspect, 55-year-old Lonzo B. Powers of Iowa City stabbed the victim multiple times, but was not himself struck nor injured in the altercation. The victim sustained serious injuries.
As a result of the investigation into the assault, Powers was arrested and faces one count of felony Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury. He was immediately jails and awaits court appearances.
