A convicted Mason City child sex offender with a repeated history of violating Iowa’s sex offender registry laws has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison after authorities caught him illegally possessing ammunition during an investigation involving vulgar sexual messages allegedly sent to a minor girl.

Iowa authorities are searching for two residents charged in connection with the death of an infant who was allegedly attacked and killed by a pit bull terrier inside a Des Moines apartment.

According to police, evidence indicates the infant was attacked by a pit bull terrier that was known to have been aggressive in the past.

The case unfolded after law enforcement executed a search warrant and discovered 20 electronic devices containing child sexual abuse material. A forensic review of the devices found nearly one million images of child pornography, prosecutors said. Some of the material involved sadistic or masochistic conduct, as well as infants and toddlers.
