Rhonda Rottler, 60, of Greene, passes away, leaves legacy of family, faith and devotion

GREENE — Rhonda Jean Rottler, 60, of Greene, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at home with her family by her side. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, 519 N. 1st Street, Greene.

GREENE — Rhonda Jean Rottler, 60, of Greene, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at home with her family by her side.

Born November 1, 1965, in Charles City, Rhonda Jean Smith was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Smith. She grew up in Greene and graduated from Greene High School in 1984 before continuing her education at AIB in Des Moines, where she earned degrees in computer programming and accounting.

Rhonda built a long and successful career in technology, working 39 years as a software engineer in billing systems for Allied Insurance, later connected with The Freedom Group and Nationwide Insurance. Her family recalled her as a dedicated professional with a remarkable work ethic.

On June 2, 1990, Rhonda married Brad Rottler at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. The couple lived in Des Moines for several years before returning to Greene, where they raised their three children, Matt, Rob and Jenny.

Family was at the center of Rhonda’s life. She cherished her role as a wife, mother and grandmother, and she took great joy in time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her home was known as a place of warmth, laughter and love.

Rhonda was also active in the community throughout her life. She was crowned Miss Teen Iowa in 1984 and also served as Greene River Days Queen and Band Fest Queen. Over the years, she judged National Cheerleading Championship events and the Miss Teen of America Pageant. She also supported her children through Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Luther League activities.

She is survived by her husband, Brad; her children, Matt Rottler, Rob Rottler and Jenny Loss; her grandchildren; her mother, Margaret Smith; her brothers, Randy, Ron and Ryan Smith; her sister-in-law, Lisa Smith; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Smith, and her brother, Ross Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory, 519 N. 1st Street, Greene.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Greene Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts.
