WINTERSET — An Iowa man is accused of shooting and killing his own mother inside the rural home they shared.

Theodore Corkrean, 23, is in custody at the Madison County Jail and has been charged with first-degree homicide.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 10:16 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2026, to the 2300 block of 148th Street in rural Madison County for a welfare check on an adult woman.

When deputies arrived, they found 60-year-old Tammy Corkrean dead. Authorities said she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators later questioned Theodore Corkrean (pictured at top), who authorities identified as Tammy Corkrean’s son. According to the sheriff’s office, he told investigators he shot his mother the previous day inside the house they shared.

The killing has left a grim mark on a rural Iowa home where a mother and son had lived under the same roof.

The case remains under investigation.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the West Des Moines Police Department.

Theodore Corkrean remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
