MASON CITY — Jim C. Miller spent a lifetime building relationships, both through his work and the simple pleasures that brought family and friends together. Known for his easygoing nature, dedication to his loved ones and enjoyment of Iowa’s outdoors, Miller died Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. He was 88.
A celebration of Jim’s life was held Saturday, July 25, at Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City. Memorials have been directed to his family.
Born May 12, 1938, in Zearing, Iowa, Jim was the son of Clyde and Helen Miller. He built a life centered on hard work and family, marrying Judith “Judy” Heim on Aug. 7, 1960. Together they shared more than six decades of marriage and raised three children: Cindy, Ron and Trent. Over the years, their family grew to include six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each adding another chapter to a life well lived.
For much of his career, Jim was a familiar face throughout northern Iowa as a feed and fertilizer salesman for Yoder Feed. The job suited his personality, allowing him to connect with farmers and customers across the region while earning a reputation for reliability and hard work.
Retirement gave Jim more time to enjoy the hobbies he loved most. He found satisfaction tending flower gardens, spending time on the water fishing and sharing friendly competition in horseshoe games with his brothers. Those simple moments reflected the values that defined him throughout his life — enjoying family, appreciating nature and making the most of every season.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Miller; his children, Cindy (Dennis) Zwanziger of Waverly, Ron Miller of Latimer and Trent Miller of Castle Rock, Washington; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Clyde “Junior” Miller and his wife, Theresa, of Marion.
