OSAGE — An Osage man faces four criminal charges after police arrested him early Saturday morning in connection with an alleged domestic assault involving a weapon.
According to an Osage Police Department arrest report, officers arrested 44-year-old Jacob G. Castaneda at 3:24 a.m. on July 25, 2026, at 623 Park Street in Osage.
The arrest record initially listed charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault involving the display or use of a weapon, child endangerment and first-offense operating while intoxicated. All three allegations were connected to police incident number 26-004437.
Court records filed Monday in Mitchell County District Court show prosecutors brought four counts against Castaneda:
- Two counts of child endangerment, each an aggravated misdemeanor
- Domestic abuse assault involving the display or use of a weapon, first offense, an aggravated misdemeanor
- Operating while under the influence, first offense, a serious misdemeanor
The publicly available records do not explain why the court case contains two child-endangerment counts while the initial arrest record listed one. They also do not identify the alleged weapon, the people involved or the circumstances surrounding the alleged OWI offense.
Castaneda appeared before a magistrate Monday. The court set a $2,000 cash bond, appointed an attorney at state expense and entered a no-contact order. Castaneda posted the cash bond and was released from custody at 9:24 a.m. Monday, approximately two days after his arrest.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 31.
Each aggravated misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine ranging from $855 to $8,540. A first-offense OWI conviction carries up to one year in jail, a $1,250 fine and license revocation, along with required substance-use evaluation and treatment provisions.
The case is State of Iowa v. Jacob G. Castaneda, Mitchell County case number AGCR027472. No disposition or adjudication had been entered as of Monday.
Castaneda is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
