Man awaiting trial on felony burglary, willful injury and assault violates no contact order

MASON CITY – A Mason City man arrested arrested earlier this month after two violent incidents has had a new charge brought against him.

Brian Lloyd Burkett, 33, was charged with class B felony first degree burglary, class C felony willful injury, two counts of aggravated domestic assault and one count of serious assault after two incidents on May 2nd. Burkett allegedly attacked a man and a woman with a knife at a Mason City home and also assaulted others at another residence.

Cerro Gordo County law enforcement now say Burkett violated a no-contact order by contacting persons allegedly connected to the case while in jail.  On May 15th, Burkett was charged after police went to Plymouth, Iowa to investigate.

In addition to those legal entanglements, on May 13th, Burkett plead guilty to driving while barred and had a charge of unlawful possession of prescription drugs thrown out.  Burkett was sentenced to 7 days in jail and $210.00 in court costs.

Burkett is now in the Cerro Gordo County Jail. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a $25,000 fine for the most serious charges.  An arraignment date of May 28th has been set.
