CHARLES CITY – A Charles City woman battled cops this month as she was given the boot at multiple locations and found herself receiving a jail term for her trouble.
Charles City police dealt with 35-year-old Yelena Harp (pictured at top) on multiple occasions in December. On the 12th at 6:35 AM, police were called to the 400 block of 7th Avenue to have her removed from the location. Trouble ensued, and Harp refused to go quietly. She racked up charges of interference with official acts (two), trespassing and assault on a peace officer. This episode so far cost her $630.00 for the trespassing. She remains in court for the interference and assault charges as she awaits a December 30 hearing.
Then, on the 15th, police were called again to the 400 block of 7th Avenue for a disturbance involving Harp, and she was again arrested for trespassing. This case remains in court and she has retained a public defender. A January 29, 2025 trial is scheduled.
Harp then got in trouble on Christmas Day. At 6:03 PM, cops were called to the 900 block of Spriggs Street to remove Harp. She racked up new charges of trespassing and interference with official acts. She already pled guilty to both charges and the trespassing cost her another $630.00, while the interference landed her in jail for ten days.
Harp is no stranger to trouble. Back on the afternoon of May 17, 2021, Charles City police took a report of criminal mischief at the 800 block of 9th Avenue. Harp had threatened to break all the windows to the residence. She then proceeded to punch and damage a window air conditioning unit, causing $20 in damage. She was arrested for fifth-degree criminal mischief and ordered to pay Iowa courts $218.38. She hasn’t yet fulfilled this obligation, records show.
