KENSETT, IOWA – Law enforcement chased a wanted man into Kensett recently before he ran away on foot.
On March 22, 2019, a Worth County Deputy attempted to stop a 2005 Red Dodge Ram 2500 at Highway 65 and 400th Street. The incident turned into a high speed pursuit heading north into Kensett Iowa on Highway 65. The vehicle in attempting to elude law enforcement reached speeds of approximately 90 MPH as it entered Kensett. The vehicle turned east onto 1st Street and then north in the alley with the deputy close behind. The vehicle attempted to drive through a back yard at 103 Maple Street but became stuck in the snow. The driver, later identified as Dustin Dean Devries of Kensett, exited the driver’s seat and ran from the scene leaving two passengers inside the vehicle. The deputy pursued on foot for a short distance before returning to the vehicle to detain the two passengers. The back seat passenger identified as Jennifer May Johnson of Charles City, Iowa was arrested on an out of county warrant. The front seat passenger was released.
Charges were filed and a warrant was issued on Devries.
On March 29, 2019, Devries turned himself in to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office on his warrants. Devries has been charged with Eluding-speed over 25 over limit (aggravated misdemeanor), Driving While Barred (aggravated misdemeanor), Possession of Methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia(simple misdemeanor), Interference With Official Acts(simple misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended(simple misdemeanor), Fail to Yield to Emergency Vehicle(simple misdemeanor), Reckless Driving(simple misdemeanor), Failure to Maintain a Reasonable and Proper Speed(simple misdemeanor), and Failure to Obey Stop Sign(simple misdemeanor). Devries was also booked in on an outside warrant for Violation of Parole.
