MASON CITY — Tonya Kay Dann, 49, of Mason City and formerly of Nashua, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026, at her home.
Tonya was born May 26, 1977, in Cresco. She received most of her education in the Nashua school system and graduated from Charles City High School in 1995.
According to her obituary, Tonya was known for her warm and welcoming nature and for making others feel valued. Family and friends remembered her as a kind, loving and selfless person who brought comfort to those around her.
Tonya spent much of her working life helping others. She worked at Comprehensive Systems and in home health care, where her compassion and dependable nature made her well suited to caring for people.
She also worked as a waitress and enjoyed the opportunities that job gave her to meet people and brighten their days.
Her obituary notes that Tonya found purpose in helping others and often expressed her care through small but meaningful acts of kindness.
Tonya loved her dogs and cat, which were treasured companions. She also enjoyed holidays and family gatherings and took special pleasure in buying presents for relatives and friends at birthdays and Christmas.
Family was at the center of Tonya’s life. She was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt whose affection and loyalty were reflected in the thoughtful ways she cared for those closest to her.
Tonya is survived by her parents, Ronald and Joyce Madden Dann of Des Moines; brothers Randy Dann and his wife, Bella, of Osceola, and Eric Dann and his wife, Gendel, of Des Moines; nephews Alix Dann and Todd Dann and his wife, Jennifer; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2026, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home and Crematory — Olson Chapel, 319 Main Street in Nashua.
Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, at the funeral home. The Rev. Scott Smith will officiate.
Interment will be held at 12:15 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery, 1170 Beaumont Way in Nashua.
