Northwood man accused of sex abuse of child has trial delayed

NORTHWOOD – A Northwood, Iowa man who says he is not guilty of sexual abuse of a child has had his trial pushed all the way back to March.

Gerad Lee Kuhlmann, age 30, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a child. The alleged victim(s) is under 12 years of age.

He was arrested in May after in investigation in Worth county that also involved the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and other local law enforcement agencies. The alleged crimes took place in March and April of 2016. Online court records indicate there could be more than one victim. The investigation began in April.

Kuhlmann has been appointed a public defender as he remains held in the Worth county jail. After a number of continuances in this case, a jury trial was been set but the case had been delayed several times. Currently, Kuhlmann awaits a March 1 jury trial and a February 20 pre-trial conference.

He could face 25 years in prison on each count if guilty.
