STATEMENT FROM MATT MARQUARDT ON GLOBE GAZETTE PUBLISHING HIS PHOTO DEAD LAST USING FAKE LAST NAME:
Good day friends. I have been informed that the Globe Gazette ran a story about me and my opponents for city council. They ran my photo dead last with the entirely wrong last name of “BEUHNER” in their newspaper. I find this to be inexcusable – yet typical of their under-handed methods. Also, I attempted to purchase advertising at the Globe Gazette. The editor, David Mayberry, refused my request. He has a history of attacking me earlier this year in a Twitter rant akin to that of a spoiled child. The Globe Gazette has not yet apologized or reached out to me to make this right.
I have called the Globe Gazette to try to get to the bottom of this. I reached David Mayberry. He was extremely rude to me. He refused to have me in to the office to apologize, and he refused to sell me advertising for a second time. Then, he hung up the phone.
I’m sorry that this is the level that Mason City politics has sunk to. My campaign will continue in earnest until we secure victory.

Thank you. There is a legend out there that the Globe once used a front page headline to label Max as the “PUBIC WATCHDOG”. They left out the “l” in the word “public”. On purpose? Always seems like their “mistakes” never happen to the Erics and Robins of the world – just to those trying to make a difference for the rest of us. Think about it – that paper would be worthless the day they published that “mistake” – if there was no mistake. I bet it sold off the shelves, just so folks could read PUBIC WATCHDOG. Disgusting.
These posts are hilarious! Not being a resident of MC, I come here for the entertainment value. Things get boring here at the Hancock County People’s Collective Turnip Farm (dedicated Democratic Socialist you know) so some entertainment is needed.
Besides, I get a chance to read Comrade Blodgett’s posts on here. While we aren’t in the same political camp, I respect his (genuine) concern for the less fortunate as I posted in the past on the Glob. BAD MOVE by the Glob letting him go.
On a serious note, adding Foster and Marquardt to the Council would be a good call.
I’m curious why you would expect good treatment when your sole purpose for many years was to put them out of business? How should they act to you? Roll out a red carpet?

We cancelled our Globe subscription right after they fired Todd Blodgett. We always read his columns, we are glad he has found a place for it here on the N.I.T.
We know Todd, he told us that some of his friends organized a boycott of former Globe advertisers. This has been in effect since about the middle of April, if I recall it right.
Mayberry is not only a weirdo, he is wrong in the brain and bad for the paper. I bet you the big shots down to the Lee offices get rid of him real soon. We will pray.

We dropped the Glob years back. After years and years of outright lying we just gave up. We ended up calling the local newspaper THE CHICKEN DINNER NEWS!

When it comes to Mr. Mayberry, since he has taken helm of the paper he has fired countless people and friends that work for him say the morale is in the cellar. It is clearly a hostile work environment and I have to believe his days are numbered. At some point the parent company will step in.
Our neighbor works at the Globe, she says it has never been worse down there. Morale and workers feelings, everything, just about. The employees are afraid of this Mayberry, he is not stable. People fear for their jobs and he reminds them about every other week that he is THE BOSS.

My grandma takes the Globb, she has suscribe to it since before my mom was born. She is on a fix income, the Globb it charges over $300 something like that, for a years worth to her little apt in Grant village. So since the Globb kicks away peoples money I will call in to them say I want my grandma’s suscription to come down. On the price, I mean.

I am also going tell my aunt she lives up to the I O O F home about this thing, she deserve a reduce price on this to, I will help her get it.
My wife and I run a small business here in Mason, she is going to call up to the Globe, demand a rate reduction in our advertising prices. No we are not biggies. But we do spend a couple thou a year. So if Mr Mayberry can turn down money for ads from NIT then he can cut us a break on the prices we pay.

This is nothing new. The Globe Gazette has been a sorry excuse for a newspaper for as long as I can remember. It’s an embarrassment to the citizens of Mason City! Thanks for sharing, Matt!
