BANCROFT, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man is facing felony charges after he allegedly stabbed a person trying to prevent him from driving drunk with a child, then confronting police.
On November 25, 2023, at about 8:40 PM, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the Bancroft Police Department with an incident that occurred in the 500 Block of East Ramsey Street in Bancroft. It was reported that a person was possibly accidentally shot with a pellet gun. During the investigation, officers were confronted by a subject that appeared to be very intoxicated. As a result of the encounter, Beau Berge, age 41 of Bancroft, was charged and arrested for public intoxication.
Officers then went to the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona to interview the victim of an alleged assault that occurred at 607 340th Street near Lone Rock on this same date. It was reported that a person was attempting to stop the suspect from driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle and was assaulted and stabbed with a pocketknife.
As a result of this investigation, officers then filed additional charges on the suspect, Beau Berge:
• Willful Injury, causing serious injury (Class C Felony)
• Assault causing serious injury (Class D Felony)
Berge is being held at the Kossuth County Jail on a $15,000 Bond.
The Bancroft Police Department and Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office are working on this case, and it remains under investigation.
