Clear Lake woman Mary Hill, 82, passes away after life of faith, family and kindness

CLEAR LAKE — Mary Esther Hill, 82, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Concord Care Center in Garner. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Avenue North in Clear Lake.

CLEAR LAKE — Mary Esther Hill, 82, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Mary Esther Bloodworth was born March 12, 1944, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Harry and Lucile Bloodworth. She later graduated from Englewood High School in Denver, Colorado.

In 1973, she married William E. Bollwahn, and the couple was blessed with a son, Josh. William passed away in 1992. Mary later worked at Walmart in Mason City, where she met Cecil Hill. The two were married September 29, 1995, at First United Methodist Church in Mason City and made their home in Clear Lake.

Faith was a steady part of Hill’s life. She was a member of Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church and had previously been involved with Temple Baptist Church and the Salvation Army Church.

Hill also enjoyed flower gardening, collecting angels and spending time with family. She especially treasured visits with her son and grandchildren in Colorado, where she attended school events and activities whenever she could.

She is survived by her husband, Cecil Hill of Clear Lake; her son, Josh Bollwahn and wife Sara of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren Aaron, Jessica and Delaney Bollwahn; stepdaughters KaRene Schermer and Marjorie Wolff; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings Janice Friedline, Alice Huskey and Henry Bloodworth; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William E. Bollwahn; her sister, Harriet Giles; and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Avenue North in Clear Lake. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 West in Clear Lake, with Pastor Chris McComic officiating. Burial will take place Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
