MASON CITY — Robert H. Fowler, 92, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Homestead Assisted Living of Mason City.

Born October 20, 1933, in Union, Iowa, Robert was the son of David and Florence Fowler. He graduated from Mason City High School and spent much of his life connected to the Mason City community.

Robert was known to some family and friends by the nickname “Shorty.” As a young man, he had a spirited side, including a brief teenage adventure when he ran off to join the circus before being brought back home.

After high school, Robert worked for many years at the Globe Gazette. He also held jobs at a bowling alley, setting pins, and at a movie theater, where he changed the titles on the marquee.

Robert later married Sandy, and the couple lived for a time in North Dakota, where he worked as a college janitor. After Sandy’s death, Robert returned to Mason City.

Bowling was one of Robert’s great joys. Over the years, he collected many trophies from the sport, reflecting the time and pride he put into the game. He was also a member of Little People of America and enjoyed traveling to conventions.

Those who knew Robert will remember his love for family and his willingness to help others.

He is survived by his sisters, Jan Faktor and Susan Chapin; special friend, Verna Humburg; nieces and nephews; and other loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents; and siblings Edward Fowler, Janet Kay Pinta and Walter Clemons.

A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.

A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Wayside Cemetery in Chapin, Iowa.
