MASON CITY – A piece of history was re-established at the Mason City Fire Department headquarters this week as the station’s overhaul is completed and a historical sculpture was set back in place.
“While renovations at the station are still underway, one special piece of our history is taking shape—the Central Station Sculpture was reassembled this week, with finishing touches to follow,” according to an announcement from the Mason City Fire Department.
“Originally dedicated in 1980, the sculpture was created using salvaged stone and elements from the former Central Station. It was later rededicated after being moved for the construction of the new ambulance bay.
“The Central Station Sculpture tells the story of our department—honoring the legacy, service, and commitment of those who came before us.
“Thank you to our community for your continued support as we preserve the past and build for the future.”
