As a ten year veteran of the U.S. Navy, I consider the act of voting more than just a right. It is a privilege many of my former shipmates, who served in Vietnam and elsewhere, risking their lives and safety, so all citizens can choose the people who will govern us. Therefore I consider it almost an obligation to vote. Since Mason City has never seen more than 8,000 people turn out for a city-wide election, as a veteran, I would feel my service in the armed forces is affirmed by the citizens in my community. If you know a veteran, honor him or her by voting on Tuesday. Encourage your friends an neighbors to vote as well. It is important!
